Homeopathy for the Holidays

December 12, 2016

We are embarking on what is known as one of the most wonderful times of the year! Excited yet? The answer deep down is probably no for most of us. Although many of us would love to think so the thought of Christmas can sometimes bring on stress and anxiety. The decorating, the baking, the family dinners and gifts. The utter chaos at every mall or outlet store...and let's not forget about the insanity at your local Costco. With all of these crazy events taking place (and may I remind everyone that we now live in a society that pops up the tree as soon as their Thanksgiving meal has been digested) our bodies may have a difficult time coping.

Stress can compromise our bodies ability to protect us from all those nasty little germs that want to find their own home for the holidays and make us sick. On top of the colds and flu's people tend to overindulge during this time of year. Look, I am not saying you shouldn't have that extra glass of wine or second helping of mashed potatoes. What I am saying is that the combination of stress, social obligations and everyday life can make us feel less than optimal. This is why I have decided to give some great tips on how to use homeopathic remedies during these times.

Homeopathic remedies are the battery packs our bodies need to boost our own immune system and help kick disease to the curb. Why not use them during the holidays to help your body cope with all the fun and exciting things that take place during this time of year. Below is a list of remedies that can help you during your time of need. Please be advised that this is just a recommended list for use and you should always consult a homeopath before taking if you are unsure or have any questions. Let the festivities begin!

 Stress & Anxiety

Argentum Nitricum

You have to clean the house, cook the turkey, wrap the gifts and make sure the decor is placed perfectly before everyone arrives. The anticipatory stress of the arrival of your family is just too much! So much so it can actually cause diarrhea. Relax...Argentum Nitricum has your back. Use this if your feeling the anticipatory stress of the holidays. This remedy is even better to use if your stress comes with digestive troubles (belching/bloating/gas/diarrhea).

Staphysagria

Feeling angry and resentful? Every little thing is upsetting your and you feel like your on edge ready to yell at the next person who brushes by...but then never say anything at all? Instead you find yourself saying "How dare they..." in your thoughts and sit with this unsettled feeling. Many times the emotional distress will be followed by urinary complaints such as UTI's.

Ignatia

Every time Christmas comes around you can't help but start to get over emotional. You find yourself easily crying at the thought of lost loved ones. You would never show it to others but when alone the water works begin. You catch yourself sighing or brooding over past situations. On the same note, your switch can flip and you find yours in hysterical fits. Your mood is always changing. It may just be the holidays but a dose of Ignatia can help you get through it!

Headaches

Belladonna

Intense, sudden, violent headaches that feel like a throbbing or pressing outward. Generally right sided and your head can feel hot. Your worse in the sun, light and any motion or jarring of your head.

Natrum Muriaticum

Bursting pains like a little tiny drummer boy has been hammering on your head. Feels like your head is in a vice being squeezed. Headaches that hit the temples or back of your head. They are worse in the sun, reading those Christmas stories and in the morning on waking (usually 10am-3pm).

Bryonia

Dull, heavy, stabbing pains that can start over the left eye and may extend to the whole head. Can be associated with nausea or dizziness. Worse with ANY motion, constipation or around 9pm but can feel better with rest or pressure.

Holiday Gut Troubles

Nux Vomica

It's simple, you have eaten and drank way too much. Good for any overindulgences. Lot's of bloating, gas going both ways with pressure in the stomach, heartburn and constipation.

Arsenicum Album

The dreaded food poisoning that is wished upon no one. You feel restless and anxious. The famous vomiting and diarrhea (with characteristic burning pains) are found and afterwards your pooched. You may feel a chilly needing that warm fire and find your weak from all the efforts.

Christmas Colds

Aconite

Colds that come on SUDDENLY. You catch the cold after being in cold, damp weather or you were caught in cold, dry wind. Use this remedy if you find your unwell within the first 24 hours.

Allium Cepa

Colds that happen after being in cold, damp weather. Your throat constantly tickles causing you to cough. Your nose is plugged and you find only one of your nostrils drips. That yukky discharge can cause burning leaving redness under your nose leaving you feeling like Rudolph.

Kalium Bichromicum

When that nasty cold gets into your sinuses. You can't breathe through your nose because they are blocked up and your voice is so nasally you sound like an elf.  The goop coming from your nose is stringy, thick and takes on the colour of yellow or green.

So don't let the chaos of Christmas take you down this year. Fight back with Homeopathy! If you have any questions about Homeopathy head on over to my Contacts page and send me an email or call.
